European legislations affecting fasteners


Depending on the applications in which fasteners are used, they must comply with one or more European legislations. This list shows the most typical ones.

RoHS:
• EU-Directive 2002/95/EC: Restriction on Hazardous Substances.
• Limits the use of dangerous chemical substances (Cd, Hg, Pb, PBB, PBDE, DecaBDE, Cr6+) in electric and electronic appliances.
• The restriction on Cr6+ implies some protective coatings are prohibited in many electric and electronic appliances.

ELV:
• EU-Directive 2000/53/EC: End of Live Vehicles.
• Limits the use of dangerous chemical substances (Cd, Hg, Pb, PBB, PBDE, Cr6+) in passenger cars.
• The restriction on Cr6+ implies some protective coatings are prohibited in many electric and electronic appliances.

WEEE:
• EU-Directive 2002/96/EC: Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment.
• Directive on the recycling of waste electric and electronic equipment.
• Holds the list of appliances that must be compliant to RoHS.

PFOS:
• EU-Directive 2006/122/EC: PerFluorOctane Sulfonates.
• Restricts the use of PFOS, e.g. in platings.

REACH:
